Natural Hydraulic Limes

Natural Hydraulic Limes (NHL) come in three different grades: NHL 2, NHL 3.5 and NHL 5. Due to the sympathetic nature of NHL (compared to sand or cement), it is most commonly used to create mortars and plasters which is particularly beneficial in traditional buildings. Each of these grades are used for different weather scenarios and vary slightly in their compressive strength and hydraulicity – the ability to cope with different levels of water and air exposure.

NHL 2 is typically applied for internal use or ageing masonry due to its slow setting nature.

NHL 3.5 is used most often for general building work due to its versatility and suitability for most types of masonry.

NHL 5 is the strongest of the Natural Hydraulic Limes and is used for the most dense types of masonry, or those faces that are likely to receive high exposure to extreme weather. It is also much faster setting than the other two types of NHL.
